It looks like Spring didn’t get the memo. Even though the weekend brought sunny skies to the Cascades, the corn cycle that started on Friday has abruptly halted. Crystal picked up 4″ overnight, and it is still snowing. The forecast center is calling for high avalanche hazard above 4000 feet and considerable below.
The National Weather Service in their warning: BACK COUNTRY TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED NEAR AND WEST OF THE CREST MT RAINIER SOUTH TO MT HOOD ON MONDAY.
So stay out of avalanche terrain today. If planning to venture into the mountains, head to the ski areas (which are all closed today) and skin up on the groomers. But stay out from under slide paths such as Powder Bowl and Rock Face. Travel safe!
