Surfs Up

After the crazy avalanche cycle last weekend, John and I snuck away for a week of

The commute from the house to the break

surfing and relaxing on the beach in Costa Rica. We are staying with the Harrisons (the family that owns the Alpine Inn) at Montezuma Beach Houses where Hillary runs Peaks and Swells Surf Camp. It isย a much needed break after working so hard this winter. Anyone looking for a relaxed, low-key, destination

Check out that form

free of tourists and high-rise hotels, look no further than Montezuma Costa Rica. I’m not entirely sure we ever want to leave.

Learning to surf is certainly an opportunity to practice humility

Evelyn demonstrates excellent surfing technique

and strength. By now we are catching most waves, but still getting worked in the strong Pacific currents. Fortunately Evelyn is here to show us how it’s done.

  1. oh, wow! That looks like soooooo much fun! The best trip we’ve ever taken was to Costa Rica. LOVE it there. Especially all the monkeys and pristine areas in Manuel Antonio Park. I’m going to check out Montezuma. Thanks! (never surfed before but always wanted to learn)

    • Costa Rica is amazing. Montezuma is very organic. There’s a great organic restaurant there and a farmer’s market on Saturday where everyone shops for fresh veggies and fruits. If you go, don’t miss Jorge’s empanadas. I’ve been dreaming about them since I got back to the States. Plus, you can drink fresh coconut juice right out of the nut. It’s great for the joints, and so refreshing. Oh, and did I mention the mangos? They’re in season right now, and ohmygod. I could go on and on. If you go, let me know. I want to hear all about it.
